Delivering for Barrhaven

When I first ran for office four years ago, I made a commitment to you that I would focus on Building Barrhaven. And together we delivered on that promise. In four short years, we fast tracked and started construction for Phase 1 of the Greenbank Realignment, completed the design of the Civic Center and new district library, built the McKenna Casey Dog Park, built over ten new parks, revitalized Houlahan, Mowat Farm and other local parks, repaved Greenbank, Fallowfield, Cedarview, and Fable (amongst others!), secured funding for multiple new cricket pitches, built roundabouts at Borrisokane and Kilspindie, installed Traffic Lights at Darjeeling, introduced an advanced green at Borrisokane and Strandherd, completed the Environmental Study for the Barnsdale Interchange, and secured commitments for further road expansions as part of the Transportation Master Plan.

 

But our work together wasn't just limited to construction hats and and heavy machinery. We introduced an annual family fun day on New Years Eve, brought Seniors together for the appropriately named Seniors Tea, and started an annual summer tradition with the Mayor's BBQ. We secured a commitment to build a Paramedic Deployment Facility, so ambulances start their journey in Barrhaven not the east-end. We secured a dedicated Barrhaven police traffic unit, and created dedicated Community Safety Zones around seven local schools. We reduced odours from the landfill and introduced 3 stream garbage in more parks. Together we introduced Bubble Zone legislation to protect places of worship, hospitals, our schools and seniors residents. We stopped the Sprung Structures. 

 

Together we've invested nearly $200 million into our community. But while I'm proud of the accomplishments we've achieved together this term, the work isn't done. That's why I'm running for re-election, to continue the good work we started this term and to continue to Deliver for Barrhaven. A Barrhaven for Families

If re-elected I will:

  • Upgrade Moloughney Park to be the heart of greater youth programming for Barrhaven

  • Complete construction on two district sized parks to give Barrhaven more play spaces and walking trails

  • Reduce red tape at the City to make it easier to build more daycare spaces

  • Secure dedicated funding for Barrhaven Cultural Events

A Safe Barrhaven

If re-elected I will:

  • Bring even more dedicated police units to Barrhaven as part of a new District Model

  • Support the construction of a Paramedics Deployment Facility in Barrhaven to enhance local response times

  • Hire more paramedics and police officers every year

  • Secure funding to expand the Queensway Carleton Hospital and lobby the province for a local Health Hub

  • Expand the noise camera pilot to catch stunt racers and illegally modified vehicles​

An Affordable Barrhaven

If re-elected I will:

  • ​Keep taxes as low as possible

  • Eliminate the Vacant Unit Tax

  • Introduce a formal review of all city fees to identify affordability reductions

  • Continue to reduce city taxes, fees, and red tape to ensure rent and home prices are affordable

Building Barrhaven

If re-elected I will:

  • Start Construction on Phase 2 of Greenbank and Secure Funding for Phase 3

  • Complete construction of the Barrhaven Civic Center and new district library​

  • Facilitate the construction of the Barnsdale Interchange by the Province in 2028

  • Advance the improvements of Fallowfield and Borrisokane Roads, including installing new street lamps on Borrisokane

  • Secure funding and start construction for sections of the Prince of Wales Road Widening

  • Start construction on the Jock River Park South

A Barrhaven with Safe Intersections

If re-elected I will:

  • Make Barrhaven intersections safer by building stop signs, pedestrian crosswalks and traffic lights where they are needed most, including but not limited to:

  • A crosswalk on Sherway and Conway by Burnett Park

  • Traffic lights at Jockvale and Longfields

  • New traffic lights and intersection improvements to Greenbank and Barnsdale

  • New traffic lights at New Greenbank and Cambrian by the food basics, as well as Seeleys Bay and Cambrian

An Ottawa that Works

If re-elected I will:​

  • Work with the City and private industry to continue to facilitate better cell coverage in Barrhaven

  • ​Improve 311 service, including reducing wait and response times and ease of access

  • Create seasonal "garbage holidays" so that you can put out more garbage after Christmas, during Spring Cleaning, and on Fall Move In

  • Work with the Ottawa Veterans Task Force to bring the Invictus Games to Ottawa

  • Work with the Federal government on options for Federal work spaces in the South End
